Found on the island of Oahu, Honolulu is the capital and largest city of the state Hawaii and is home to the best known Hawaii tourist attraction; Waikiki Beach. Translating from Hawaiian the capital is known as “Peace of Shelter” and while inner city can be busy (like a traditional city) it still has the laid back and tranquil atmosphere that accompanies the beautiful islands. The beaches on Honolulu are a wonderful place to spend your holiday, Waikiki Beach is the most popular and is a stunning white sandy beach that is framed by hotels and has the striking backdrop of Diamond Head. Popular for swimming, surfing and outrigger canoes, Waikiki can feel a bit over populated however head to the west near downtown to Ala Moana Park. The park is a large lush green space full of trees and grass and there is a nice sandy beach that makes the perfect area for families looking for calmer waters. For an interesting beach experience and those keen on snorkelling, the Hanauma Bay is set in the vast crater of an extinct volcano and is full of brightly coloured coral reef that makes scuba diving a rewarding experience. Cultured travellers shouldn’t miss out on visits to the historic Pearl Harbour and the informative Bishop Museum; dedicated to Hawaiian history and families visiting the capital will love the Honolulu Zoo, Waikiki Aquarium and Sea Life Park.
