Three islands, Grenada, Carricou and Petite Martinique make up the nation of Grenada and also include a collection of tiny islands in the Caribbean and the West Indies. The country is found off the north east coast of Trinidad and Tobago and south west of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.   The island of Grenada is famed for its spices and over the years has laid claim to the “Spice Isle” nickname, in particular, Grenada is the biggest source of cloves, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. The island of Grenada also boasts the majority of the nation’s population and the lion’s share of attractions, such as famed rum distilleries, historical forts and long abandoned (and some operational) spice estates. The island is considered the prettiest of the three with cascading waterfalls, crystal clear lakes and award winning floral gardens, while Carricou is recognised for its long empty beaches and Petite Martinique is a near deserted explorers heaven.   One of the true island culture attractions, the Belmont Estate, is a long established 17th century cocoa plantation. Found on the island of Grenada the estate is a unique and authentic experience in which travellers can not only view a working plantation but there is even an opportunity to participate.
